Student and Staff Sponsorship

Below are pictures and a brief description of current students and staff at the basic school in White House. To become a sponsor, click or tap the button underneath the description. This will take you to a page where you can enter your name, email address, and the amount of your sponsorship. After this information has been confirmed you will be directed to the Rock the World website where you can set up the donation amount. At the Rock the World donate page, if you are setting up monthly giving, please remember to check the box for "Make this Donation Monthly". We realize some of the information will be entered twice. Currently, this is the best way for us to make sure your sponsorship goes where you desire.

The school year is broken into three terms, and tuition for each term is 8000 JMD or approximately 65 USD--this comes to $195 for the year or $16.25 per month. However, the school is in great need, so any amount above a beyond the amount for tuition will go directly to the school for supplies and improvements on the building. Under each student's name will be information about whether he or she has been sponsored and to what level.

Information about sponsoring the staff appears below the students.

Thank you so much!

Staff

The Victory White House Early Childhood Centre maintains five staff. Angie Brown is the principal and oversees the teaching, curriculum, and staff. Miss June teaches the upper class ages 4 to 6, and Miss Pam teaches the lower class ages 2 and 3. Miss Audrey runs the kitchen, and Miss Donna maintains the grounds and helps to keep the school tidy.

Pastor Tony and Angie Brown followed the call of the Holy Spirit more than eight years ago and started a basic school in the Fishing Village. Angie is the principal and also assists with the teaching as needed. Her philosophy is that early childhood education lays a foundation for success in school and life. She and Pastor Tony have a heart for children who live in unsafe neighborhoods and want to create a safe space for them where they know they are loved and can share the trials of their home life.

Pastor Tony has recently come into health issues. He has typically been the one to deal with government agencies, newsletters to supporters back home, and the like. Yet currently, on top of taking on caring for her husband, Angie now also has had to take on these additional administrative tasks.

She often goes months without pay to ensure her staff is paid and has set her salary on par with theirs. The salary for her and the other two teachers is set at 30,000 JMD which comes out to roughly 240 USD per month. This is only slightly above the Jamaica minimum wage, which is currently 6,200 JMD per week.

We realize $240 a month is a lot to give. But any amount would help support the school and allow it to grow and provide for the children who make up its student body.

Miss June

Just watching Miss June work with the children in their studies and in singing songs and in their play, it is obvious how much she loves and cares for them. She, too, often goes without pay. She lives in Coral Gardens, which is an area just to the east of the Fishing Village. She has a new baby boy who was born at the end of the last school year.

Again, her salary is 30,000 JMD per month, which comes to roughly 240 USD. Any amount will help support the vital work she is doing.

Pam.jpg

Miss Pam

Miss Pam has an undeniable affection for the little ones, which is clearly shown in her patience with them. She gives each one of them the attention they need and treats them as if they were her own. She told us that she loves how spontaneous the children are and that they each or so different. She lives in Norwood and is married with one son.

Her salary is also 30,000 JMD, which works out to around 240 USD. Any amount will go a long way to continue her work with the 2s and 3s.

Miss Audrey

Not yet sponsored

Miss Audrey has a heart for children, which is evidenced not only by her faithfulness to come each day and cook lunch for the children, but also because eight of her many grandchildren live with her, as their parents have abandoned them. Her grandchildren hold a special place with us, as they have been consistently present each summer over the past five years as we have come with Community VBS and spent time hanging out with them.

Her salary is 4,000 JMD per week, which is below the minimum wage. This comes out to about 32 USD per week, or around 140 USD per month. Any amount would help support this amazing woman who so faithfully serves the least of these.

Miss Donna holds a special place in our hearts. She has been a fixture at the school as long as we have been coming. She loves her work at the school in caring for the grounds and cleaning the building, which is clear from her smile and the joy that she so clearly displays. She is often the first to show up each school day and the last to leave. Yet she is often the last to get paid. She lives close by in the Fishing Village with her special-needs son, but if you were to see her home, it would tug at your heart.

Her salary is the same as Audrey, which is 4,000 JMD per week, or about 140 USD per month. Any amount would help to provide basic needs for this true servant-heart.
