Our 2017 summer outreach—our fifth year—was the most impactful yet. Many who joined us for the first time in 2017 are returning with us this year. Our dates and our team is set! We will be traveling and in-country during the same timeframe in 2018, which is July 21 to 30, a Saturday to a Monday. Each year we have found that God has a new work in store for us—new people to meet, new experiences in the culture. Even so, we plan to model the 2018 trip to look very much like our trip in 2017. Here are some of the details:
For the second time we will be offering all five days of Community VBS to the children in the Fishing Village. We also will have many work projects planned for the school. Of course, there will be some down-time and a chance to have some fun.
This year we have topped are numbers from last year to again be taking the biggest team yet—23 people! From 10 to 70, we have the teens, 20s, 30s, 40s, 50s, 60s, and 70s covered! We have educators, administrators, a full-time missionary, moms, dads, grandparents, college students, recent high-school graduates—and an amazing blend of talents, spiritual giftings, and life experiences. Here's a brief overview of our schedule:
Sunday, July 22 – Bring a worship service to the Fishing Village in White House. Afterwards, have a “free sale” where donated clothes we’ll be taking down will be available for the families of the village.
Monday to Friday, July 22 to 27 – From 10 to noon we’ll start each day by bringing Community VBS to the children of the Fishing Village. We hope to bus in some of the children from the nearby community of Flanker as well. In the afternoons, some of our team will be working on projects at the school while others will be playing with and ministering to the children, some will be offering bible study and other activities for the moms, and all will be available for prayer and one-on-one face time with any who need it. We hope to end on Friday by giving out grocery bags to each family like we did last year.
Saturday, July 28 – In years past, it’s been work, work, work. This year, we’re taking a “fun day” and as a team going to Dunns River Falls!
Sunday, July 29 – Attending the worship service at the Uprising at Fairhaven, the guest house where we’re staying. We hope to meet up with the kids from Robins Nest Children’s Home at Doctors Cave Beach in the afternoon. We’ll also prepare to return to the US.
